Cleaning and Charging Your Crystal Wand

How to Clean, Charge & Care for Your Crystal Wand

So you've got a gorgeous crystal wand — congratulations! Whether it's a translucent rose quartz Lunaris or a mirror-finish black obsidian Noctis, keeping it in top shape is easier than you'd think. No special tools, no complicated rituals — just a few simple habits that'll keep your wand looking (and feeling) brand new for years.

We put this guide together based on what we've learned from crafting hundreds of wands and hearing from our customers about what works best. Let's get into it.

Cleaning Your Crystal Wand: The Basics

Here's the thing about crystal wands — they're surprisingly low-maintenance. You don't need a cabinet full of specialty cleaners. What you do need: lukewarm water, a gentle soap, and a soft cloth. That's it.

After Each Use

Run your wand under lukewarm water (not hot — thermal shock isn't your friend here) and use a small drop of unscented castile soap or mild hand soap. Lather gently with your hands or a soft washcloth, then rinse thoroughly. The "thoroughly" part matters — nobody wants soap residue on something that touches skin.

Pat it dry with a clean towel, then let it air-dry completely before tucking it away. We keep a dedicated microfiber cloth for this — works beautifully and doesn't leave lint behind.

The Monthly Deep Clean

Once a month (or whenever you feel it needs a refresh), you can give your wand a saltwater bath. Dissolve a tablespoon of sea salt in a bowl of lukewarm water and let your wand soak for 10–15 minutes. Some crystal enthusiasts believe this also helps clear accumulated energy — whether or not that resonates with you, the salt does a genuinely excellent job of lifting any residue that regular washing might miss.

One important note: Don't soak obsidian wands like our Veyora or Serpentine for extended periods. Obsidian is technically volcanic glass, and while it handles brief soaks just fine, prolonged water exposure isn't ideal. A quick 5-minute dip is plenty.

What NOT to Do

We've seen some creative cleaning advice out there, and honestly, some of it makes us cringe. Please avoid rubbing alcohol, bleach, hydrogen peroxide, or any abrasive cleaner. These can dull the polished surface and potentially create micro-scratches — exactly what you don't want on something designed for intimate contact. Stick with the mild soap approach and your wand will thank you.

Charging Your Crystal Wand

If you're into the energetic side of crystals (and many of our customers are), charging your wand periodically can feel like hitting a reset button. Even if crystal energy isn't your thing, there's something genuinely meditative about the rituals below.

Moonlight Charging

This is the crowd favorite, and for good reason — it's practically effortless. Place your wand on a windowsill or outdoor surface during a full moon (or the nights surrounding it) and let it bathe in the moonlight overnight. One of our customers told us she's been doing this monthly with her Blooma for over a year and swears the rose quartz develops a warmer glow. We can't scientifically confirm that, but the ritual itself? Beautifully calming.

Sunlight (With Caution)

A couple of hours of gentle morning sunlight works well for charging, but here's the catch — prolonged direct sunlight can gradually fade rose quartz over time. The pink color comes from trace amounts of titanium and manganese, and UV exposure can lighten it. So: morning sun, yes. Leaving it on your patio all afternoon in July? Probably not.

Crystal Cluster Method

If you already own a selenite plate or amethyst cluster, simply place your wand on top of it for a few hours. These larger crystals are considered natural energy amplifiers in crystal healing traditions. It's a convenient option that works rain or shine — no moon-watching required.

The Intention Method

Hold your wand in both hands, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths. Set a clear intention for what you'd like the wand to support — relaxation, self-love, connection, exploration. Whether you view this as genuine energy work or simply a mindfulness exercise, the act of pausing to set intention before using your wand creates a more present, embodied experience. And isn't that the whole point?

Storage & Long-Term Care

Crystal is durable, but it's not indestructible. A few smart storage habits go a long way.

Every CrystalThrill wand ships in a velvet-lined pouch — we'd strongly recommend keeping it there when not in use. It prevents surface scratches from contact with other objects and keeps dust at bay. If you've misplaced yours, any soft fabric bag or even a clean sock (hey, no judgment) works in a pinch.

Store your wand somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight. A nightstand drawer is perfect. And while we love the idea of a crystal collection display shelf, just make sure wands aren't touching each other — crystal-on-crystal contact can cause tiny chips at pressure points over time.

Every month or so, give your wand a quick visual inspection. Run your fingers along the surface and feel for any roughness or irregularities. If you notice a chip (it happens, especially around tips), it's best to retire that wand from intimate use and let it live a peaceful second life as a beautiful display piece or meditation tool.
